Rushworthy Ngondonga lives in a small, rural village close to Harare in Zimbabwe. Through Cascade, the Fontis Fellowship, Rushworthy’s village was supplied with solar panels providing power for fridges, computers, wi-fi and phone charging. This was life-changing for Rushworthy, his family and his community.
Rushworthy’s wife lives with Type 2 Diabetes. Now she, and others like her, can better manage her condition thanks to the ability to store medication and fresh food (so enabling an improved diet) in fridges – something that was not possible before. Neighbours with heart conditions have reported similar benefits.

Access to digital technology meant Rushworthy could search online for jobs relevant to his qualifications. He moved on from self-employment as a furniture fabricator and now works as an aviation engineer for Etihad Airways, increasing his family income and spending power locally. Others in his village have been inspired by his success, leading to more children attending the village school, so creating a better long-term health outlook to the next generation of villagers.
This small technological advancement, supported by our Cascade initiative, continues to have a huge impact on Rushworthy, his family and communities, improving health, wellbeing, and opportunities – and so bringing hope to their small village in Zimbabwe.
